1998年『國際平行處理年會會議』(International Conference on Parallel Processing, 1998) 於八十七年八月十日至十四日在Minneapolis, Minesota, USA召開，由Ohio-State University 協辦並出版論文集。會議程序共有3個tutorials，3個Keynote Address，1個panel discussion，24個 technical sessions，3個workshops，可謂一個極大型的國際會議。會中有來自許多國學者與會。今年已是二十七屆年會會議了，可說是平行處理中非常重要且為創始會議。尤其這個會議一直保持一貫的高水平要求(論文接受率只有三成)，參與之論文均為上上之選。

本會議之technical session研討主題涵蓋如下領域:

Convergence Points on Commercial Parallel Systems:

Do we have the node architecture?

Do we have the network?

Do we have the programming paradigm?

由H. J. Siegel, Purdue University 所仲裁與組織。討論小組成員包括 Hank Dietz, Purdue University, Jose Duato, Universidad Politecnica de Valencia Steve Scott, Cray Research/Silicon Graphics, Thomas Sterling, JPL/Caltech, Craig Stunkel, IBM Research, Stephen Wheat, Intel 均是平行處理有關的廠商中的重量級且具前瞻性的代表人物。討論會十分精彩。

此次會議中，筆者是議程委員(Program Committee Member)之一，能參與議程的安排與組織，對如何主辦一個國際大型會議是相當難得的經驗。

此次會議中，筆者被安排成為ROUTING這個technical session的主席，負責控制議程的進行，維持議程的熱絡討論氣氛。

筆者被安排在Multicasting 這個technical session (session 5c)中發表論文題目" An Euler-Path-Based Multicasting Model for Wormhole-Routed Networks with Multi-Destination Capability"，演講後並充份交換意見。

筆者的另一篇論文"Algebraic Foundations and Broadcasting Algorithms for Wormhole-Routed All-Port Tori"安排在Wormhole Networks 這個technical session (session 7c)中由本人指導之研究生王三元發表。筆者全程參與並在演講後和與會學者充分交換意見。

此次會議中，筆者並參與了交大C. L. Wu教授的Keynote Address "Implementing Parallelism on Silicon"，他向與會學者介紹了國科會有關P7 processor的計畫。另外、也參與了Iwao Toda, Fujitsu Labs的Keynote Address "Where is the Internet Heading to? -- From Workplace to Livingspace"

筆者很感謝國科會此次的補助。出席國際性學術會議對於做基礎研究學者是一種莫大的鼓勵，並能增廣見聞同時吸收新知更能和研究同一領域之外國學者互相切磋討論。

國際平行處理年會的會議已舉辦27年。它是一個在平行處理領域上專業的的會議，幫助與會人員對平行處理領域的整體了解十分有幫助。筆者認為十分值得國內學術界人士擴大參加。
